Ghost Tour of Historic Sydney

Sydney offers a wide variety of sightseeing options, from helicopter flights, to surfing lessons and shopping tours, but for a real look at the dark side, the Ghost Tours that explore the history of Sydney are a frighteningly enticing adventure.  The tour explores The Rocks, the birthplace of Australia as a British Penal Colony before it became a majestic place in it's own right.  During the tour, your host will share stories of death by murder as well as suicide and hanging.  Not to mention the hauntings!  While on this tour, expect the unexpected as these haunted tales, mixed with the ghostly sightings thrill and frighten.  After jumping out of your skin several times, you're sure not to forget this experience as you sleep with the lights on at home!

The tour covers about two kilometers, lit by lantern light.  As you walk through alleys and along old cobblestone lanes, you will explore the hidden past of the Rocks area, discovering a past that has created spirits that still live and wander.  Among the thrilling tales you'll hear, you'll learn about the ghost named 'George' who still haunts his place on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  You'll hear the horrific tale the mutilated body as well as the hair raising stories of the Rocks 'Dead House'.  And what Opera House would be complete without it's own ghost stories and hauntings?  As you enjoy the scenery further, you can search for the ghost of the lost cabin boy and discover why Mrs. Greenfield was chased by her knife wielding husband.  These and other haunted tales await you as you adventure among the hidden legends of Australia.  You'll even have the chance to visit a still standing haunted house site built in 1822...where the apparition of Amelia still lingers...

Aside from a few holidays, this tour goes seven days a week, departing in the evening to explore the Rock by lantern light.  It take about two hours to complete and can accommodate groups of from one to twenty five, ages 18 and over only.  For comfort, it is important to wear shoes and clothing appropriate for the walking tour and to be in good enough physical shape to participate as well as handle the stairs along the tour.  One of the fun aspects of the tour is that you may be asked to participate as one of the ghostly characters during the tour!  Part of the fun, you can play a part and thrill your fellow tour guests.  The tour goes in all weather conditions and in the event of wet weather ponchos can be provided.  And you are welcome to bring your camera along, of course.  Who knows...you just may catch a ghost on film!
