?s design was evolved from the Gipsy Moth, a 1924 design, and first flew in 1931.
At the outbreak of WWII it was the basic trainer for all the airmen in the Commonwealth and was the last biplane trainer used by the RAAF. Tiger Moths were built in Australia under licence to equip the RAAF with a new basic trainer.
